Great slippers but what’s with the sticky substance all over the soles?!

This is the 4th pair of Skechers Cozy Campfire slippers I have bought. Loving them and trusting their quality, I bought them for someone going into hospital. The slippers arrived the day before their admission and I was shocked to find the soles slathered in some kind of sticky substance! I had no time to return them so cleaned the soles with warm water and mild detergent. EVENTUALLY the majority of the goo came off. But this is just not good enough! House Of Slippers told me to send them photos (which I did) and return the slippers (which I couldn’t). Pretty lousy. Will look for an alternative in future
